Stop giving credit to Fairytales

There are many atheist postings all over the internet these days and that makes me very happy.  I love to see a world that is starting to wake up and not believe the fairytales that have been vomited to the world out of the profane mouths of “holy” men.  Then comes the common sight of an atheist arguing with a pious commenter and quoting the bible* at them, this often makes me ill.  I find it disgraceful that we, intellectually superior, individuals would stoop to the level of using a book of lies and oppression to argue anything.   I myself will refrain from quoting the bible (unless it is to draw attention to a passage that is being talked about, more often I will just link to in in an online bible) in my arguments and I would ask other atheist in the world to please do the same.  We need, as a community, to prove to the wackos of the world that that book is the garbage that we know it to be.

That said it would seem that there are many who consider arguing with religious idiots a waste of time.  The argument goes; you shouldn’t waste your time arguing with the fanatics because you will never get through to them.   So stop arguing and they will just go away.  Here is the problem with that type of argument, you are not arguing behind closed doors where only you and the individual that you are arguing with will be the only two to benefit from the argument.   There are many very intelligent atheists that have placed very sound and convening arguments on the web.  These well thought out and convincing arguments are often on very popular websites.   Young or questioning people, while searching for information on atheism, are very likely to find these websites and read comments where the arguments exist.  If the argument is persuasive enough it may be enough to help the searcher to make the decision to cast aside the lies and manipulation of religion, or at the very least will give them a “jumping off point” to begin understanding the world around them without blinders on. So please, continue to argue, even if you do not get through to the person that you are arguing with, and anecdotal evidence suggest you won’t, remember you are not arguing in a shell.

*note I say bible but that is because I live in the US where this is the basis of most of our oppression, this should be read as religious book, I use the bible as an example, my arguments are often directed at many religions but I have much more experience being oppressed by christians than any other faith so I will continue to use this as a general term.
